academic work
An anthropologist at large, I embrace a critically engaged practice of multimodal anthropology that emphasizes openness and reciprocity. Reclaiming this “at large” bit of a title reflects my deep commitment to research as a boundless, generous exploration of life and worlds, while humorously acknowledging the constraints of conventional and elite academia.
I am passionate about anthropology as a science of wonder and its potential to shape better worlds through endless bounciness and curiosity. Over the past two decades, I have dedicated myself to breaking down the boundaries between arts and sciences, intellectual and creative pursuits, and formal education and lived experience.
My work includes creative ethnographic projects involving writing and image-making. I serve on one hand as a simultaneous interpreter (French, English, Khmer) and on the other hand as a consultant specializing in cultural strategy and equitable development in diverse, often sensitive contexts. My collaborative and personal efforts have led to impactful publications and educational innovations both within and beyond universities.

Research & Publications
My research with Cham Muslim Cambodian communities across Southeast Asia and the SWANA region explores the power of images to convey disrupted histories that extend beyond what is visible, documented, or archived. Teaching & Workshops
I am passionate about experiential learning and universal design, both inside and outside the classroom. I thrive on untangling conceptual knots—challenging, complex ideas—through practice-driven approaches that resonate with diverse audiences. Explore examples of my past teaching and training experiences below, and feel free to reach out if you’d like me to engage your audiences through public talks and interactive workshops!
Multimodal Anthropology & Creative Ethnography
Rooted in both textual and visual practices, my engagement with anthropology and the arts is deeply embedded in living, working and studying the SWANA and Southeast Asia regions. I harness the power of still and moving images—often dismissed as minor or mediocre—to create alternative spaces for exploration within cultural and media studies.
As a multidisciplinary [ever-aspiring] artist, I work primarily in the analog with photography, film, sound, and sketchnotes to convey complex narratives fostering lived experience and feminist sensory ethnography. Check the link below for a detailed portfolio.
